Captain (retired) Arthur Reginald Raby, R.N., Retired (7 March, 1869 – 16 April, 1926) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Raby was the son of Rear-Admiral H. J. Raby, V.C., C.B..[1]

Raby was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 September, 1891.[2]

Raby was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1903. In 1905 while he was in an appointment in the second class protected cruiser Dido, he was admonished for firing armour piercing shells at a Battle Practice.[3]

Raby was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 7 March, 1912. When war seemed imminent, he was assigned to work with the Trawler Reserve at Milford. In July 1915, he moved to become Senior Officer in Charge, Auxiliary Patrol Area XXII. In February 1917, he became the Extended Defence Officer, Devonport – an appointment he held until he was reverted to the Retired List on 3 May 1919.[4]
