Captain (retired) Arthur Francis Gresley, (4 September, 1844 – 2 October, 1899) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Gresley started his naval career in Illustrious, but was moved into the new H.M.S. Britannia when she opened in January, 1859.

Gresley was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 11 September, 1866.

An appointment for Gresley to take command of the destroyer Contest on 7 March, 1879 was cancelled.

Gresley was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1881.

Placed on the Retired List at his own request on 4 September, 1891.

Gresley was promoted to the rank of Captain (retired) on 31 December, 1896.
