Life & Career
Born in Portrush, Ireland, his father worked for the National Bank of [India?].
Southby was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1908.
Southby was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 June, 1916.
Southby was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1919.
He was placed on the Retired List with gratuity on 19 April, 1920.
He became a member of Parliament in 1928. His baronetcy was conferred in May 1937. Southby would, as a conservative M.P., speak in measured and fair terms in defence of Neville Chamberlain during 1940's Norway Debate.
