Archibald Cochrane

Rear-Admiral (retired) Archibald Cochrane, C.M.G. (20 June, 1874 – 15 July, 1952) was an officer in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Captain Cochrane was raised in Bagshot, Surrey and gained seven months' time on passing out of Britannia.

Cochrane was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1896.

On 20 February 1900 Cochrane was appointed to Ocean, holding gunnery duties temporarily while awaiting the arrival of Lieutenant Warleigh.

Cochrane was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1918.

Cochrane was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1907.

Cochrane was appointed executive officer in Alacrity on 27 February, 1913 and served in her until 24 August 1914 when he was appointed to command Empress of Russia on the China Station.

Post-War

Cochrane was appointed in command of the light cruiser Colombo in December, 1921.

Cochrane was placed on the Retired List on account of age on 20 June, 1929 and subsequently was promoted to Rear-Admiral on the Retired List on 4 August, 1929.

Cochrane died of penumonia and a cerebral hemorrhage.
