Captain Alfred Frank St. Clair Armitage, R.N. (1 February, 1878 – 14 October, 1930) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born the son of a reverend, in Cheltenham.
Armitage was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1900.
Armitage was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 1 October, 1908.
Around 1908-09, Armitage was thanked by the Admirality for his help in evaluating "the Fire Control System of Lieutenant-Commander "Bruix"" (quotes in his Service Record), whose precise identity seems mysterious.
Great War
Armitage was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1914.
Armitage was appointed in command of the base ship H.M.S. Thalia, and as Assistant to Captain of Patrols at Cromarty on 12 May, 1917. He remained in this post until May, 1918 when he was appointed in command of the monitor M.20.
Post-War
Armitage was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Captain on 16 April, 1924.
