Admiral Alexander William Chisholm Batten, M.V.O., D.S.O., Royal Navy, Retired (28 September, 1851 – 2 November, 1925) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Early Career

He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 April, 1875.[1]

Chisholm-Batten was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 January, 1886.[2]

He was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1893.[3]

He was appointed command of the battleship Resolution on 24 June, 1901.[4]

He commissioned the battleship Formidable in October 1901.[5]

On the occasion of the King's visit to Malta Chisholm-Batten was appointed a Member of the Fourth Class of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) on 27 April, 1903.[6]

Flag Rank

Chisholm-Batten was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 24 May, 1905, vice Atkinson-Willes.[7]

In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List on 1 May, 1907, at his own request.[8] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List dated 26 October, 1909,[9] and to Admiral on the Retired List on 15 May, 1913.[10]

Great War

He was appointed a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) on 4 June, 1917.[11]
