Rear-Admiral Alexander Robert Hammick, R.N. (16 February, 1887 – 1969) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Born in Stoke, the son of Rear-Admiral Robert Frederick Hammick.

Hammick was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1908.[1]

When the war broke out, Hammick was appointed to gunnery officer in the battleship Prince George. He served in her until 19 October, 1915. A week later, he was admitted to Haslar Hospital, suffering from Bell's Palsy. At about the same time, he lost confidential books from the Devonport Gunnery School.[2]

Hammick was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 31 December, 1916.[3]

In 1920, he a Webley pistol went missing from H.M.S. Canterbury, and Hammick bore some of the blame in the matter.[4]

Hammick was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1922.[5]

Hammick was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1929.[6]

World War II

Hammick was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 25 June, 1940 and placed on the Retired List the next day.[7]

He was reverted to the Retired List as medically unfit on 13 September, 1945.[8]
