Elliott's Bearing Transmitter was an optical device which could transmit its relative bearing to a remote receiver.
Design
A hand-wheel would cause the binocular carrier to train as it worked a transmitter to a receiver in the T.S.. A trigger on the hand-wheel would work a light or buzzer at the receiver.[2]
In some ways, its function was like the transmitter of an Evershed Bearing Indicator, but it was on the step-by-step principle and presumably more accurate in its resolution.
