Christopher Russell Payne ( – ) was an officer of the Royal Navy during the First World War.

Life & Career

Payne was appointed in command of the destroyer Crusader on 21 October, 1909.[1]

Payne was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1912.

On 1 September 1913, he was appointed in command of the second class protected cruiser Vindictive.[2]

In May 1917, he was appointed in command of the heavy cruiser Suffolk.[3]

From 1918-1921, he was Captain of H.M.S. Vernon.

In April, 1922, he was appointed in command of the battleship Malaya.[4]
