John Denison
Admiral John Denison, D.S.O., Royal Navy (25 May, 1853 – 9 March, 1939) was an officer of the Royal Navy.
Early Life & Career
Denison was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 16 April, 1878.[1]
Denison commissioned the first-class gunboat Goassamer at Sheerness on 30 June, 1891.[2] He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1891.[3]
Denison was promoted to the rank of Captain on 13 May, 1896.[4]
In October 1900, he assumed command of the first class protected cruiser Niobe.[5]
He was appointed in command of the battleship Montagu on 28 July, 1903.[6]
He was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to King Edward VII dated 29 June, 1905, vice Montgomerie.[7]
Flag Rank
Denison was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral dated 18 September, 1906.[8]
He was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 10 February, 1911, vice Barlow.[9]
Denison was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 7 December, 1913. In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, he was placed on the Retired List on 8 December.[10]
Great War
He was appointed a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) on 4 June, 1917.[11]
