The Spanish-American War fought in 1898 saw a small but ready American nation displace a wheezing Spain from her colonial outposts in Cuba as well as in the Philippines and other Pacific islands.
Naval actions were foremost in allowing the Americans to exploit Spain's feeble forces and isolate her remote land holdings for siege and capture.
