Captain (Royal Australian Navy)

Captain was a rank in the Royal Australian Navy, the most senior before promotion to Flag Rank and the rank of Rear-Admiral. As in the Royal Navy, Captains were often in command (acting as "captain" in the practical sense of this overloaded term) of a large cruiser or a capital ship, although they frequently were placed in command of a naval installation ashore or assigned an administrative post.
