William David Gordon Weir

Commander William David Gordon Weir, O.B.E. (23 May, 1897 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of David R. Weir, stockbroker.

Weir was a member of a large special entry to the Training Establishment in September, 1915. He passed out on 1 February, 1916 and was placed in Dreadnought. On 8 May 1917, he was appointed to the battlecruiser Renown, where he remained until late November.

In December, he took a course in Torpedo Control at H.M.S. Vernon. On 12 December, he was appointed to the Opportune, where he remained until 4 March, 1919.

Weir was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1919.

Weir was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 August, 1927.

World War II

Early in the war, he commanded the M.T.B. base H.M.S. Hornet.

Weir was placed on the Retired List on account of age with the rank of Commander on 23 May, 1942.

He reverted to the Retired List on 25 July 1947.
