Captain (retired) Frank Henry Peyton, R.N. (18 September, 1861 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of Captain S. Peyton was born in Penzance.

Peyton was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 June, 1885.

Appointed in command of the training brig Nautilus from 1 September 1894 to 20 January, 1898.

Peyton was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1898.

Peyton was appointed in command of Vestal on the China Station on 28 November, 1901. He was invalided from the ship on 13 June, 1902 and it seemed clear that his tenure had not impressed Vice-Admiral Cyprian Arthur George Bridge, who wrote that he did not recommend Peyton for advancement, as "[t]his officer was so timid about the seagoing qualities of the ship he commanded, that I do not consider him a proper person to have a command."

Peyton was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Captain on 18 September, 1906.

Peyton was brought back into service for the entirety of the war, working exclusively with the Senior Naval Officer, Harwich. He reverted to the Retired List on 27 December, 1918.
