Commander Francis Grassie De Lisle, R.N. (9 June, 1859 – 19 January, 1906) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

In July, 1871, de Lisle was ranked tenth in order of merit of thirty-five candidates accepted as Naval Cadets following the entrance examinations.[1]

de Lisle was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 8 December, 1879.

de Lisle was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 January, 1891.

Retired as unfit on 25 February, 1898 under the provisions of Order in Council of 22 February, 1870. An entry above this, which was struck through, clearly stated "unfit chronic alcoholism" and "under OinC 3 August 1897" and gave him 7/6 a day rather than 10/- in retired pay was "not given effect to in consequence of [illeg] report on him by Sir A. Buller."
