John Hugh Lewes
Captain (retired) John Hugh Lewes, C.B.E., D.S.C. (30 June, 1900 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
The son of retired chartered accountant J. H. Lewes, Esq..[1]
Lewes passed out of the Training Establishment on 4 September 1916 and was appointed to the battleship Commonwealth. He remained in her until being appointed to the super-dreadnought H.M.S. Resolution in mid-December 1916. He would serve in her through the end of the war.[2]
Lewes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 April, 1920.[3]
Lewes was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 April, 1928.[4]
World War II
Lewes was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander and re-appointed on 30 June, 1945. He reverted to the Retired List on 23 November, 1946 and was granted the War Service Rank of Captain.[5]
