Captain Charles Philip Giffin Hicks, (20 April, 1845 – 25 December, 1896) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Hicks was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 28 June, 1866.[1]

Hicks was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 Deceember, 1879.[2]

Hicks was promoted to the rank of Captain on 1 January, 1887. In November 1890, he was criticised for allowing Serapis to come too close (perhaps) to a light. On the positive side, on 21 June 1891, Admiral Commerell remarked that, "the Serapis is, in my opinion, he best of the troopships."[3]

Hicks died of apoplexy.
