Lieutenant-Commander (retired) Walter Stuart Smithies, (16 January, 1889 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

While a Yeoman of Signals, Smithies was awarded the Royal Humane Society's Bronze Medal for saving life from drowning in 1917. He served in Landrail from 16 February, 1918 and then in Dartmouth from 6 December, 1918 as the Great War was winding down.

Smithies was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 3 January, 1921. He retired on 5 December, 1922.

Smithies was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 3 January, 1929.
