Leslie Haliburton Ashmore
Vice-Admiral Leslie Haliburton Ashmore, C.B., D.S.O., Royal Navy, Retired (21 February, 1893 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Ashmore was promoted to the rank of Acting Sub-Lieutenant on 15 January, 1913.[1]
Ashmore was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 November, 1915.[2]
Post-War
Ashmore was appointed in command of the submarine L 17 on 20 November, 1920.[3]
Ashmore was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 November, 1923.[4]
Ashmore was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1928.[5]
After being superseded in Wallflower, Ashmore took a Staff course and then on 3 January, 1933 was appointed to work inside the Admiralty in the Second Sea Lord's office vice Hamilton.[6]
On 7 April, 1938, he was appointed to the Kent, to direct her trials and to take command upon her commissioning, as Flag Captain to the Commander in Chief, China, vice Leach.[7]
World War II
Ashmore was superseded in Kent on 12 September, 1939, and traveled back to England for an an appointment on the Staff of Vice-Admiral, Dover.[8]
He was appointed in command of the battleship Valiant in May, 1942.
He was appointed in command of the battleship Malaya in October, 1943.
Ashmore was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 8 January, 1944.[9]
Ashmore retired on 20 November, 1947 and was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 13 July, 1948. He was granted permission to proceed to France in 1949.[10]
