Rear-Admiral H. Bury Palliser, who has been appointed to the command of the Pacific Station, is in his fifty-sixth year, He saw much service in the Russian war, both in the Baltic and in the Black Sea. Subsequently, Admiral Palliser was charged with the protection of British interests on the North Coast of Spain during the Carlist war of 1870-71; for which service he received the thanks of the British Ambassador in Madrid. As captain, he commanded the battleship “Edinburgh” in the Mediterranean, was flag captain to the Earl of Clanwilliam, when Commander-in-Chief at Portsmouth and served as Commodore in charge at Hong Kong.
