Admiral Paul Behncke (13 August, 1866[Citation needed][Fact Check][1] – 4 January, 1937) was an Admiral of the Imperial German Navy during the First World War, who in 1918 became the Secretary of State of the Imperial Naval Office.

Early Life & Career

Behncke was appointed in command of the pre-dreadnoughts Wettin and Westfalen in 1909 and 1910.

Great War

Behncke was promoted to the rank of Konteradmiral on 14 July, 1914 and in that capacity commanded the Third Battle Squadron, comprised of the most powerful units at the Battle of Jutland.

He was promoted to Vizeadmiral on 25 November, 1916 and Admiral on 20 December, 1920.
