Admiral SIR Arthur Alan Morison Duff, K.C.B., Royal Navy (19 April, 1874 – 5 April, 1952) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Early Life & Career

He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1909.[1]

He was appointed command of the battlecruiser Lion on November, 1911.[2]

Great War

On 9 August, 1914, Duff's Birmingham encountered U-15 which had been immobilised by engine trouble and delivered a fatal ram.[Citation needed] He commanded Birmingham at the Battle of Jutland.

He commanded Inflexible from November 1916 through August of 1917.[3]

On the occasion of the King's birthday he was appointed an Ordinary Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 4 June, 1917.[4]

Post-War

In May 1919, Duff was appointed in command of the light cruiser Caledon.[5]

Hef was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 24 November, 1920, vice Nicholson.[6]

On 16 May, 1924, Duff succeeded Rear-Admiral Douglas L. Dent as Director of Naval Equipment.[7]

Duff was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 March, 1926.[8]

Duff was promoted to the rank of Admiral on 8 May, 1930, vice Keyes,[9] and was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 15 May.[10]
