Hugh Pigot Williams
Admiral Hugh Pigot Williams, Royal Navy, Retired (1 September, 1858 – 28 June, 1934) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Early Life & Career
Williams was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 7 February, 1880.[1]
On 5 July, 1884, he was appointed as a Lieutenant (G) on the Junior Staff at Excellent.[2]
He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1893.[3]
Captain
Williams was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1898.[4]
He was appointed in command of the third class protected cruiser Phoebe on 9 October, 1900.[5]
He was appointed in command of the battleship Hood on 30 January, 1904.[6]
He was appointed to the Tamar as Commodore, Second Class and as Naval Officer in Charge at Hong Kong on 17 July, 1905.[7]
Flag Rank
Williams was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 11 April, 1908, vice Gamble.[8] From 1910 to 1912 he served as Naval Adviser to the Ottoman government.
Williams was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 16 May, 1913, vice Cross.[9]
In accordance with the provisions of the Order in Council of 8 December, 1903, Williams was placed on the Retired List on 11 April, 1915.[10] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 3 April, 1917.[11]
