Commander William David Gordon Weir, O.B.E. (23 May, 1897 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of David R. Weir, stockbroker.[1]

Weir was a member of a large special entry to the Training Establishment in September, 1915. He passed out on 1 February, 1916 and was placed in Dreadnought. On 8 May 1917, he was appointed to the battlecruiser Renown, where he remained until late November.[2]

In December, he took a course in Torpedo Control at H.M.S. Vernon. On 12 December, he was appointed to the Opportune, where he remained until 4 March, 1919.[3]

Weir was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 August, 1919.[4]

Weir was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 August, 1927.[5]

World War II

Early in the war, he commanded the M.T.B. base H.M.S. Hornet.[6]

Weir was placed on the Retired List on account of age with the rank of Commander on 23 May, 1942.[7]

He reverted to the Retired List on 25 July 1947.
