George William McOran Campbell
Vice-Admiral (retired) George William McOran Campbell, R.N. (12 June, 1877 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Campbell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 October, 1899.[1]
Campbell was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1911.[2][3]
Upon being superseded in command of Tartar in January 1912, Campbell started a series of appointments in battleships, starting with Cæsar on 30 January and moving to Bulwark upon her re-commissioning in April. He was then sent to join the armoured cruiser Roxburgh on 4 June, remaining with her for nearly two years.[4]
Campbell was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 99 on 15 April, 1914.
Great War
Campbell commanded the destroyer Obedient at the Battle of Jutland as part of the Twelfth Destroyer Flotilla.[5]
Campbell was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1916.[6]
On 28 August, 1916, Campbell was appointed in command of the first class protected cruiser Blake.
Post-War
Campbell was appointed in command of the battleship Thunderer in August, 1924.
