Jump to navigationJump to searchLieutenant-Commander David William Shafto Douglas, (1 July, 1883 – 31 May, 1916) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
David Douglas was born in Totnes in 1883, the son of Archibald Lucius Douglas, who was a Rear-Admiral in the service when David entered the navy in 1897.
Douglas was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 September, 1904.[1]
Douglas was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 September, 1912.[2]
Douglas served as gunnery officer in the battleship Goliath from 10 November 1913 until she was torpedoed by a Turkish submarine and lost on 13 May 1915.[3]
Douglas was appointed to the armoured cruiser H.M.S. Black Prince on 9 August, 1915 as Gunnery Officer and died when she was lost at the Battle of Jutland.
