Captain Guy Lutley Sclater (15 August, 1868 – 26 November, 1914) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Sclater was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant on 15 June, 1888. On his qualification exams he received a first-class certificate in torpedoes, and second-class certificates in all other subjects.[1]
He was appointed to the armoured cruiser Imperieuse on 13 December, 1889. When the Imperieuse was paid off in 1891 while flagship of the China Station, Sclater was one of the officers chosen for re-appointment to the ship upon recommissioning.[2]
He was promoted to the rank of Commander on 1 January, 1902.[3]
Sclater was appointed to the President for service at the Admiralty in the Controller's Department on 28 November, 1905. His specific duties was supervision of torpedo fittings to ships being built under contract.[4]
Sclater was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1907.[5]
On 15 March, 1910, he assumed command of the protected cruiser St. George, which had become a destroyer depot ship.[6][7]
He served as captain of Glory from 5 December, 1912. His duties in Glory also included command of a group of Third Fleet ships in reserve.{MackieRNW}}[8]
He was appointed in command of Aboukir on 15 April, 1913.[9]
He was appointed in command of the battleship Bulwark on 17 November, 1913,[10] and died when she exploded on 26 November, 1914.[11]
