Admiral James Clement Ley, C.B., C.V.O., Royal Navy, Retired (25 July, 1869 – 15 July, 1946) was an officer of the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Ley entered the Britannia on 15 January, 1883.[1]

Lew was confirmed in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant, dated 14 February, 1889, and was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 24 November, 1890.[2]

Ley was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1901.[3]

Captain

He was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1906.[4]

Captain of London from 1 October, 1908.[5]

Captain of H.M.S. Collingwood dated 22 June, 1912.[6]

Great War

Ley was appointed a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) on 8 September, 1916.[7]

He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 5 October, 1917, vice de Chair.[8]

On the occasion of the King's birthday he was appointed an Additional Member of the Third Class, or Companion, in the Military Division of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath (C.B.) on 3 June, 1918.[9]

Post-War

Ley was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 24 March, 1923, vice Fitzherbert, and was placed on the Retired List on 25 March.[10] He was advanced to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 1 August, 1927.[11]
