Lieutenant (retired) Frederick Furnivall (30 November, 1874 – 10 June, 1952) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

Furnivall was promoted to the rank of Gunner on 16 April, 1902 and confirmed in the rank on 4 May, 1902.[1]

Furnivall was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 88 on 9 May, 1912.[2] During his time in command, he was scolded for having not carried out a very complete search for a lost torpedo in December 1913. He was superseded in command on 14 May 1914. He was appointed to the armed merchant cruiser Moldavia on 29 December 1915.[3]

Furnivall survived the sinking of Moldavia on 23 May and 18, having been promoted to the rank of Chief Gunner on 16 April, 1917.[4]

Following a little over two years service in the light cruiser Durban, Furnivall was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Lieutenant on 30 May, 1922. In August 1922, he altered his name to George Frederick Furnivall.[5]
