Lieutenant-Commander (retired) Donald Arthur Willey, (26 June, 1898 – ) was an officer in the Royal Navy and, as a Midshipman, served in H.M.S. Tiger's Transmitting Station and in "Q" Turret at the Battle of Jutland.
Life & Career
Willey was promoted to the rank of Midshipman with seniority of 28 September, 1914.[1]
Willey was promoted to the rank of Sub-Lieutenant with seniority of 15 September, 1917.[2]
Willey was appointed to Tiger on 3 October, 1914[3] and would fight in her at the Battle of Jutland. Assigned as the Spare Range Plotter, he replaced the fallen Midshipman Forbes in "Q" turret as a volunteer, as recorded in the ship's.
He granted the acting rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 15 September, 1919.[4]
Willey was appointed to attend a course at Cambridge University on 31 January, 1919.[5]
He promoted to the rank of Lieutenant with seniority of 15 April, 1919. This seems to contradict the above information.[6]
