Life and Service

Jehan was appointed to Cherwell of the Channel Squadron on 19 January, 1909. His service in her ended on 3 April.

He was appointed to Iron Duke on 17 April, 1913 and stayed in her until 15 December, 1917. During the Battle of Jutland he acted as control officer for her 6-in guns. Jehan described his role in taking German destroyers under fire at 9,000 to 10,000 yards – seemingly to good effect. Jehan was subsequently recommended for early promotion for his service during the battle.

He was made a Chief Gunner on 14 July, 1917.[1]
