Vice-Admiral Philip Ruck-Keene, C.B., C.B.E., D.S.O., Retired (7 November, 1897 – 28 May, 1977) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of a Reverend, Ruck-Keene was a member of a large special entry to the Royal Naval College, Keyham in September, 1915.

As a Midshipman, Ruck-Keene was appointed to the Vanguard on 1 February, 1916. He was fortunate to have been lent to the depot ship Lucia for service with submarines before Vanguard blew up just before midnight on 9 July 1917, being then one of approximately twenty-four men who escaped with their lives.[1]

Ruck-Keene was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 February, 1919.

In 1923, Ruck-Keene and Lt. Bernard William Galpin developed a graphical method by which to track submarine battery performance.[2]

Ruck-Keene was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 February, 1927.

Ruck-Keene was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1931.

Ruck-Keene was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1936.

Ruck-Keene was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 5 July, 1946.

Ruck-Keene was placed on the Retired List with the rank of Vice-Admiral (retired) on 3 August, 1949.
