Captain (retired) Joe Henry Claude Willoughby, (25 January, 1892 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve before transferring into the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Willoughby served in Savage from 7 August 1914, and performed commendably while minesweeping inside the Dardanelles.[1][2]
He served in the submarine E 43 from January 1916 to February 1917, and later served in Hind until he was transferred into the R.N. on 2 November, 1916 at the rank of Lieutenant.[3][4]
He commanded Template:UK-ML287 from 15 September, 1924 until 1 May, 1926, being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 2 November, 1924.[5]
Willoughby was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on 28 November, 1936.[6]
World War II
He was granted the War Service rank of Captain when he reverted to the Retired List on 23 November 1945.[7]
In 1948 he was granted permission to reside in Canada.[8]
