Admiral SIR Geoffrey Schomberg Arbuthnot, K.C.B., D.S.O., Royal Navy, Retired (18 January, 1885 – 4 October, 1957) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Arbuthnot was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 November, 1906.[1]
He married on 22 October, 1913 and had a daughter in 1914 and boys in 1915 and 1919, one of whom joined the Royal Navy.[2]
Post-War
Arbuthnot was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1918. The next day, he was appointed executive officer in the armoured cruiser H.M.S. Cornwall. On 19 August, he would move from her to be commander in Temeraire, where he would remain until 2 May, 1921.[3]
He was then appointed to work with the Director of Naval Ordnance, where he would remain for nearly two years. On 10 February, 1923, Arbuthnot was appointed to Calcutta as commander.[4]
Arbuthnot was promoted to the rank of Captain on 30 June, 1926.[5]
Arbuthnot was appointed in command of the battleship Valiant in December, 1935.
Arbuthnot was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 11 December, 1936.[6]
World War II
Arbuthnot was promoted to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 6 May, 1940.[7]
Arbuthnot was placed on the Retired List on 31 December, 1943 and promoted to the rank of Admiral on the Retired List on 7 February, 1944.[8]
