Commander Richard Herbert Denny Townsend, (25 July, 1879 – 31 May, 1916) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of physician Richard Hungerford Townsend was born in Queenstown.[1]

Townsend was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1901.[2]

Townsend was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1913.[3]

Townsend was appointed to the battlecruiser H.M.S. Invincible on 1 August, 1914 and died when she was lost at the Battle of Jutland.[4]
