Commander Richard Herbert Denny Townsend, (25 July, 1879 – 31 May, 1916) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

The son of physician Richard Hungerford Townsend was born in Queenstown.

Townsend was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 31 December, 1901.

Townsend was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1913.

Townsend was appointed to the battlecruiser H.M.S. Invincible on 1 August, 1914 and died when she was lost at the Battle of Jutland.
