Gunner was a Warrant Officer (later a Commissioned Warrant Officer) rank in the Royal Navy. Typically, a man would first be named an Acting Gunner for about a year before being confirmed in the rank – a step not always noted in Service Records.
Gunners with fifteen years seniority would attain the next rank, that of Chief Gunner.
