H.M.S. A 2 was one of thirteen "A" class submarines completed for the Royal Navy.
Service
Captains
Dates of appointment are provided when known.
- Lieutenant & Commander John F. Hutchings, 20 August, 1908[4][5] – 19 March, 1909[6]
- Lieutenant & Commander Andrew F. G. Tracy, 1 January, 1909[7] – 1 November, 1909
- Lieutenant & Commander John R. G. Moncreiffe, 19 March, 1909[8][9] – 18 January, 1910[10][11]
- Lieutenant Geoffrey R. S. Watkins, 18 January, 1910[12][13] – 2 December, 1910[14]
- Lieutenant Gerald E. B. Carter, 2 December, 1910[15][16] – 8 November, 1911[17]
- Lieutenant & Commander Victor E. Ward, 8 November, 1911[18][19] – 8 March, 1912[20]
The apparent conflict between Tracy and Moncreiffe is odd, as the same page of one Navy List shows them both in command.[21]
