Captain (retired) Francis Walter Despard Twigg, O.B.E., R.N. (17 February, 1883 – 17 February, 1951) was an officer in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Twigg was "launched" on the Terrace in Chatham Dockyard.
Twigg was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 30 September, 1905.
Twigg was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 30 September, 1913.
Twigg was appointed in command of the destroyer Dee on 5 November, 1913.[1]
Twigg left Dee when he was appointed to Minotaur for signalling duties and as Flag Lieutenant-Commander to R/A, Seventh Cruiser Squadron Waymouth. He went to Defence as Flag Lieutenant-Commander to R/A Arbuthnot on 26 April, 1915 and was fortunate to be moved to H.M.S. Iron Duke on 29 August, 1915, as this no doubt saved his life to be here during the Battle of Jutland. On 3 December, 1916 he went to the Portsmouth Signal School.
Twigg was appointed in command of the destroyer Lysander on 15 March, 1917.[2]
Twigg was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1917.
On 18 December, 1919, Twigg was appointed in command of the destroyer Stormcloud.[3]
Twigg was promoted to the rank of Captain on 27 June, 1929.
