Commander Lewis Dod Sampson, R.N. (21 September, 1853 – 28 July, 1894) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Sampson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 17 February, 1874.
Sampson was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1888.
On 3 July, 1894, Sampson was reported to be suffering from fever and on 7 July it was reported that he was being sent home from Zanzibar in S.S. Spartan.
A telegram from the Cape of Good Hope reported that Sampson drowned on 28 July, 1894. He had committed suicide by jumping overboard from S.S. Spartan while she was underway from Port Elizabeth to Cape Town.
