Captain (retired) Charles Elsden Gladstone, (24 December, 1855 – ) served in the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Gladstone entered the Navy on 23 January, 1869 and passed the Royal Naval College in June, 1876.[1]
Gladstone was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 24 May, 1877.[2]
Gladstone passed as Torpedo Lieutenant First Class on 31 March, 1882. He remained in Vernon as part of the staff, to instruct officers.[3]
Gladstone was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1890.[4]
Gladstone was appointed in command of the scout cruiser Fearless in the Mediterranean on 21 January, 1895.[5]
Gladstone was appointed in command of the Royal Naval Reserve drill ship Eagle on 1 November, 1898. He left her when he was appointed to Severn, additional, as District Officer of Coast Guard, Ramsgate on 7 November, 1901. His appointment was to be three years, and not be renewed.[6]
Gladstone was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Captain on 7 November, 1904.[7]
