U.S.S. Ellis was one of one hundred and eleven Wickes class destroyers completed for the U.S. Navy.

Service

Ellis was commissioned on 7 June, 1919 under the command of Lieutenant Commander Thomas E. Van Metre.

On 6 November, 1934 she collided with Template:UK-McFarland while the two destroyers engaged in a massed night attack against the Main Body of the U.S. Fleet off the coast of Mexico. Damage was slight, but both were towed to San Diego.[7]
