Vice-Admiral Stephen Herbert Radcliffe, C.M.G., Retired (19 February, 1874 – 7 November, 1939) was an officer of the Royal Navy during the First World War.
Life & Career
Radcliffe was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 19 August, 1894.[1]
Radcliffe was appointed a Lieutenant & Commander of the destroyer Lynx on 6 January, 1900.[2]
Radcliffe was promoted to the rank of Commander on 30 June, 1904.[3]
Radcliffe was promoted to the rank of Captain on 31 December, 1911.[4]
On 17 May, 1913 Radcliffe was appointed to command the battlecruiser Australia.[5]
He was appointed in command of the armoured cruiser Drake.
He was appointed in command of the light cruiser Achilles on 11 February, 1918.[6]
Radcliffe was appointed in command of the battleship Superb on 22 June, 1918.[7]
He was relieved by Captain Charles W. Bruton in command of the Superb and Group IV of the Nore Reserve on 15 December, 1919, preparatory to assuming the position of Commanding Officer of the Immingham Area on 1 January, 1920.[8]
On 6 April, 1922 Radcliffe was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral, and was placed on the Retired List at his own request on 7 April.[9] He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on 1 July, 1927.[10]
