The Battle of Manila Bay, fought on 1 May, 1898 was one of two main naval actions of the Spanish-American War.
A Spanish squadron of two protected cruisers and four unprotected cruisers in ill condition to fight and with irresolute officers and crew remained at anchor during the morning action and was devastated by Commodore George Dewey's four protected cruisers.
