Commander Henry John Murphy, (29 May, 1893 – ) served in the Royal Navy.

Life & Career

After serving as a petty officer, Murphy was promoted to the rank of Mate on 13 October, 1916.[1]

Murphy was appointed to the C 5 or E 5 (attached to Pactolus) on 8 May 1918 and served in her through 26 December, 1918. He was promoted in this appointment to the rank of Lieutenant on 13 October, 1918. On 27 December, he was appointed to the interned German submarine UB 91, temporarily.[2]

Following a stint in command of H 48, Murphy reverted to General Service on 2 May 1925.[3]

Murphy was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 13 October, 1926.[4]

Murphy was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1929. In 1930, he was granted permission to proceed to France and Spain.
