Captain (retired) Herbert Charles John Grant, (12 February, 1872 – 24 December, 1957) served in the Royal Navy. He was the son of Rear-Admiral Grant.

Life & Career

Grant was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in July 1892.

Grant was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1903.

Grant was superseded as commander in Arrogant on 8 April, 1909 in the wake of friction between himself and the officers with Captain Ralph Hudleston. The blame for this fell more squarely on Hudleston than anyone else,[1] and Grant was soon thereafter placed in command of Iphigenia.

Grant retired at his own request on 13 February, 1912 with the rank of Captain, but was brought back into service for the Great War.
