Commander Ronald Langton-Jones, D.S.O., R.N., Retired (22 October, 1884 – ) served in the Royal Naval Reserve and the Royal Navy.
Life & Career
Born in London, Langton-Jones was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 11 August, 1914.[1] He served as Persistant[?] Beach Master at Helles from May to December 1915, and Commodore Keyes commented that Langton-Jones was "about the bravest man under fire that he had ever met."[2]
Langton-Jones was transferred to the R.N. on 23 March, 1916,[3] having been serving in Europa as a Lt., R.N.R.. His seniority as Lt. was antedated to the date of his promotion in the R.N.R..[4]
On 14 March 1917, he was appointed to Q35 in command. Built in 1911, the ship was renamed Rule at some point before the end of 1917. Her typical role was to accompany convoys, presumably as a special service vessel, a "Q" Ship. After three successful convoys, his name was specially noted in September, 1917. He remained in command through the end of the war.[5]

On 31 July, 1925 Langton-Jones was subjected to a Court Martial for negligently or by default having hazarded Tring and for negligent performance of duty. The first charge was proved, and the second was not. He was reprimanded.[7]
Langton-Jones was placed on the Retired List at his own request at the rank of Commander on 10 December, 1928. He then proceeded to the Bahamas to serve as Inspector of the Imperial Lighthouse Service.[8][9]
