Commander R.N.R. (retired) Gilbert Thompson, O.B.E., R.D., R.N.R. (5 July, 1884 – 8 March, 1952) served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Thompson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 2 August, 1915.[1]

Commanded the Admiralty whaler Rightwhale from 19 March to 21 August, 1918. He was demobilised on 14 March 1919.[2]

Thompson was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 2 August, 1923.[3]

Thompson was placed on the Retired List on account of age at the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 5 July, 1929.[4]

World War II

In 1949, he reported that he was a Master in the Merchant Navy and was not fit for naval service owing to age. He died at Colombo in 1952.[5]
