U.S.S. Ward was one of one hundred and eleven Wickes class destroyers completed for the U.S. Navy. She is most noted for being the ship that first fired on the enemy in World War II, when she discovered and fired upon and sank a Japanese miniature submarine as it attempted to infiltrate Pearl Harbor on 7 December, 1941.
