Captain R.N.R. James Leonard Payne Sibree, R.D., R.N.R. (Retired) (28 September, 1884 – 20 August, 1968)[1] served in the Royal Naval Reserve.

Life & Career

Sibree was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant R.N.R. on 1 April, 1915.[2]

Sibree was appointed in command of the first-class torpedo boat T.B. 30 on 2 July, 1918.[3]

The Auxiliary Patrol base at Hydraulic Dock was closed on 14 June, 1919. Sibree had been acting as Senior Officer, and in command of T.B. 29 and another boat, perhaps T.B. 30.[4]

In 1919, while in command of T.B. 30, Sibree abandoned a goverment lighter he had been towing in bad weather. Maurice Swynfen FitzMaurice, the Rear-Admiral commanding the British Aegean Squadron, considered that Sibree was guilty of an error in judgement in not returning to harbour sooner. Sibree was demobilised on 16 October, 1919.[5]

Sibree was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander R.N.R. on 1 April, 1923.[6]

Sibree was promoted to the rank of Commander R.N.R. on 30 June, 1929.[7]

He was placed on the Retired List with the rank of Captain on 28 September, 1934.[8]

In 1948, he was living in Hull as an Elder Brother at Hull Trinity House.[9]
